There is a strong connection between pornography and human trafficking.

Pornography fuels the demand for sex trafficking, while traffickers use pornography to train victims and attract buyers1234.Pornography sets the stage for what customers want, desensitizing viewers to sexual violence and making them more willing to purchase sex acts3. This demand drives traffickers to supply victims, as they can make 1-10 times their investment in trafficking victims3.Traffickers also use pornography to groom and train victims, forcing them to watch porn to learn the sexual acts buyers prefer45. Victims are often coerced through threats, abuse, and false promises4. Traffickers may also use pornographic images of victims as blackmail to maintain control5.In fact, the Human Trafficking Hotline identified pornography as the top-ranked industry for sex trafficking cases in 20203. Many survivors report that customers showed them porn to illustrate the acts they wanted performed5.Pornography is also used to attract buyers, as traffickers post pornographic images of victims online to advertise them for commercial sex acts5. The more violent the content, the more money traffickers can make3.Ultimately, the pornography industry profits from the exploitation of trafficking victims, while fueling the demand that drives the sex trafficking industry. Consumers of pornography are often unaware if the performers are victims of trafficking or coercion4.
